  • Native to the shallow, rocky areas of Lake Tanganyikain Africa, the Tropheus moliro red is a very popular species of Tropheus found in the hobby today. Like other species from this group of African cichlids, they can display some of the brightest colors of all the species found in the African rift lakes. This species of Tropheus features a dark red or maroon color on its head, ventricle fins, and tail. The dark read is contrasted by a bright red color on its dorsal fin, anal fin and lower portion of its body.

  • Compatibility:

Tropheus moliro red, like all Tropheus, are highly aggressive towards conspecifics, which can make difficult to keep them in a home aquarium. To reduce the aggression, they should be kept in large groups of 12 or more and there should be many more females than males. When kept in large groups, they can be kept with other Tropheus like the Tropheus Moorii Ilangi, the Tropheus Bemba Flame, or the Tropheus Cherry Spot.
